Mongoose Publishing (Mongoose) has published their State of the Mongoose 2009, detailing how they did in the past year and what they plan to do in the upcoming one. Check out the full report at www.mongoosepublishing.com/phpBB2/viewtopic.php . Some highlights, though:
Mongoose seems to be doing fine as a RPG company; distributors tell them they are the biggest RPG-only company in the market. Their flagship line is Traveller, which will be seeing new backgrounds and supplements going forward. They are also looking at a new edition of RuneQuest, with overhauled mechanics and a leather binding (?!?). They are also continuing with their other lines (more Paranoia goodness), and using their Flaming Cobra line to provide support for partner companies. Redbrick, with their new edition of Earthdawn, took title billing in the Flaming Cobra lineup; a new science fantasy set in the Eighth World is apparently on the schedule for next year from them. There are many other RPG products discussed, but I'm afraid I can't go through all of them here!
Finally, Mongoose is planning to give miniatures another try in 2010. Sadly, the Starship Troopers license is not coming back, and no word is given on what will be taking its place--but they plan on making an announcement "soon". A related forum post says that they will probably keep the same basic system (currently available as "Battlefield Evolution", in WWII and modern varieties), though--whatever license they are lining up should at least have a developed system underlying it.
